Political Motivations

Posted on Thu Apr 21st, 2011 @ 4:07am by Captain Nathan Cowell MD & Lieutenant Antoine Théroit

Mission: Renegades
Location: Commodore's Ready Room
Timeline: Directly following 'The Romulan Connection'

Commodore Nathan Cowell was knee deep in casualty report writing when the door to his office alerted him to the presence of someone who wished to enter his office. Nathan wondered for a moment who it could have been, but recalled hearing someone come over the comm a little while ago, though he didn't catch much other than a name as he was preoccupied with writing the official reports to Starfleet regarding his losses. Regardless of what the person had to say, it would likely be a little less depressing than having to account for the souls that were taken from him.

"Come!" the Commodore barked, setting down the PADD he was holding.

The new arrival Lieutenant Antoine Theroit rushed into the Captain's Ready Room with his report. He handed it to the Captain, "Captain." He gave the Captain a chance to read the report and to take a breathe.

Nathan took the PADD and commented offhandedly, "It's Commodore, not Captain..." He went over the information for a moment before he decided he would rather hear it from the horse's mouth.

"Sum this up for me. What exactly is your contact trying to say? That we're suppose to capture these people alive?" Nathan asked bluntly.

"At our discretion, Captain. Commander Neral is the the high valued target they want captured. Preferably alive but if he were to be killed in a Mexican standoff."

"Well, I hate to break it to your contact, Mister Theroit... but I'm not about to go easy on these shitbags for anyone. If they end up dust because we threw one too many tricobalt devices up their asses, oh well... I have twenty-two lives lost because they wanted to be stupid and hit our assets. They knew the consequences if we weren't destroyed, it's for them to live with until we snuff them out. No offense to your friends..." Nathan frowned.

"I'm not offended Captain. I am pretty sure my contact would understand if we weren't able to capture him dead or alive. I just wanted to bring you this information forward that this Commander isn't acting on orders from Romulan High Command."

"One less thing to worry about then," Nathan nodded, "If that is everything, you can get back to your duties. Oh, and just so you know, I'll be having a briefing in a few hours, I'll send you more details when they're solidified. Dismissed..."
