Corridor Collisions

Posted on Thu Feb 10th, 2011 @ 5:09pm by Captain Nathan Cowell MD & Ensign Jennifer Russo

Mission: Hippocratic Hijacking
Location: Corridor, Deck 5, USS Arizona
Timeline: After 'Contingency Planning'

Captain Nathan Cowell was in a less than agreeable mood thanks to the news from 'Stretch' that beaming through the shields would be far more trouble than it was worth investing the time to looking into. The option he had given was no less favorable, but it could be done. Nathan simply didn't like having to split the ship every time something popped up. One of these days it wasn't going to be possible, and reliance on something that can't always be done was not a popular notion to the Captain. 'Stick to what works' was something he'd always done, and until he'd landed the Arizona, none of his ships came with the jigsaw command.

Rounding a corner, Captain Cowell collided with something soft but unyielding, which told him as he fell backward that he'd just slammed into some crewman or another in his absorbed internal reflective state.

Jenn screeched as she reached a corner, she hadn't seen anyone coming around. She got knocked backwards but was able to steer herself into the bulkhead and crashed against it instead of falling. Her PADD however hit the deck, she looked around once she recovered and noticed the captain on the floor. Jenn swallowed hard, this would be the first mistake she'd made since her short time coming aboard. And on your first assignment the first issue you caused with a CO was something you dreaded. In all reality she didn't even think the Captain knew who she was, and wished this wasn't the way he would remember her.

"Captain, I'm so sorry, let me help you up sir," she said, holding her hand out for him.

Nathan let the woman help him up mostly because he was starting to feel his age and he didn't want to admit that to anyone by struggling to get up while looking like a floundering fish. Once on his feet, he brushed himself off and gave the woman a measured look.

"It's quiet alright, Ms..." Nathan realized he had no clue who she was. Either his old age was getting the best of him or he'd actually never run across her before now.

"I'm Bos'n Russo sir," she said, with a smile. She felt better that he hadn't gotten angry or annoyed with her, she looked a little relived visibly. "Excuse me sir," she said, picking her PADD up off the ground. "Can't lose this sir, it's my mind." She said, with a slight and mostly nervous laugh.

"Yeah... I'm used to it kid..." Nathan said with a shrug, "So are you one of Stretch's troops or one of Joker's?"

Jenn wasn't exactly sure what to say, "I'm the ship's Bos'n, I'm in Ops." Jennifer was not aware of the Chief Operations Officer's nickname, but if she had to guess it would probably be Joker. "Joker... would be my guess sir." She said, with a small hint of a suppressed laugh in her voice.

"Poor thing..." the Captain said in a sympathetic voice, "That might explain why I don't know who you are, he tends to keep the good looking ones all to himself. If you have problems with wandering hands, let me know."

Jenn giggled a little, "Yes sir," she said. "You have a good day sir," she said, knowing that she had to get back to her day's routine. Jenn was also pretty sure that the Captain must be busier than herself.

"Yeah, I suppose I can try, but don't bank on it happening..." Nathan grumbled as he continued on in the opposite direction.
